Player held ‘exploratory talks’ with Man City, 22 y/o ‘will leave’ for a ‘top club’ this summer

Manchester City aren’t short of forwards with Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva at their disposal, but Ferran Torres was sold to Barcelona in January without being replaced, so a new face might be brought in this summer.

Dutch outlet Voetbal International say the Sky Blues have had ‘exploratory talks’ with Cody Gakpo whose future at PSV Eindhoven is uncertain. The 22-year-old still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his deal and could extend it for another year, but he might still be leaving in the coming months.

VI say Gakpo ‘will leave’ PSV for a ‘top club’ in Europe, so City are trying to position themselves ahead of all suitors. The Dutch international rose through the youth ranks to the first-team at Philips Stadium and has gone on to make 116 appearances in all competitions, scoring 31 goals with 29 assists.

Gakpo’s had a hand in 21 goals from 28 games across the board this season, so it’s easy to see why City are interested. Whether their pursuit is successful remains to be seen, however, as PSV won’t let him go willingly given his contract runs until 2025.
