Player must regret leaving Man City as fans sing savage chant in FA Cup clash [Opinion]

Manchester City beat Chelsea for the second time in three days with a 4-0 win on Sunday, resulting in a bad homecoming for Raheem Sterling.

The 28-year-old was injured for the trip to the Etihad Stadium but was the subject of a savage chant from fans that reminded him of what he’s missing in Manchester.

Supporters sung “Raheem Sterling, he’s 10th in the league!” as Chelsea currently sit eight places below second-placed City in the table. And while Sterling wasn’t even on the pitch, this chant might have hurt him.

The England international left City off the back of winning his fourth Premier League title in five seasons due to unhappiness over his role under Pep Guardiola.

Sterling left to be a regular starter back in London, but his decision has backfired as he’s lost his starting place in a Chelsea side that are underperforming. He’s lost all three meetings with his former club and amassed just 27 minutes of playing time.

The 28-year-old has scored six goals with three assists from 22 games at Chelsea, but he’s netted only once in the Premier League since August and has one assist to his name in five months too.

Sterling has four years remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge, so the peak years of his career might be stuck in West London now while his former City teammates continue challenging for major honours.
