Why Raheem Sterling withdrew from England duty and when he’ll return for Man City

|

Raheem Sterling pulled out of international duty for England after picking up a hamstring injury, but Manchester Evening News believe he’ll be back after the break.

The 25-year-old, who has scored 13 goals and made 21 assists in 58 appearances for England, will miss the Three Lions’ friendly against Wales (October 8), Nations League clash with Belgium (October 11) and Nations League clash with Denmark (October 14).

Sterling has played in every Manchester City game this season, scoring three goals and making two assists, but it’s touch and go whether he’ll feature against Arsenal on October 17.

In Sterling’s absence, Pep Guardiola could call upon Ferran Torres or Bernardo Silva. We’re having an injury crisis this season with Oleksandr Zinchenko (muscle), Ilkay Gundogan (fitness), Gabriel Jesus (muscle) and Sergio Aguero (knee) currently sidelined, so we’ll have a patched-up team against the Gunners.

After three games, we’re currently 14th in the Premier League with only four points, having beaten Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 before losing 5-2 to Leicester City and drawing 1-1 with Leeds United. Here’s hoping we can turn things around after the international break and will be able to welcome back a number of injured players.
