Report: Arsenal interested in £50m-rated Man City man who ‘admires’ Mikel Arteta

Raheem Sterling is out of contract in 2023 and isn’t close to putting pen to paper on an extension, so his future at the Etihad Stadium is uncertain. The 27-year-old could leave Manchester City at the end of his deal next year and Calciomercato say Arsenal are trying to capitalise on the situation.

The Gunners had previously shown an interest in Gabriel Jesus amid uncertainty over his future in Manchester, but it appears they’ve turned their attentions towards his teammate.

Sterling knows Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta well from when he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant, and he reportedly still has a lot of ‘admiration’ for the Spanard. Whether that gives the Gunners an edge in their pursuit for his signature remains to be seen, however.

The England international joined City from Liverpool in 2015 and has gone on to make 336 appearances in all competitions, scoring 128 goals with 93 assists. Sterling has scored 14 goals with seven assists from 44 games across the board this season, so he remains as much of a goal threat as ever.

City don’t want to let the £50m-rated forward go, however, so it’s unlikely they’ll listen to any offers. Arsenal may have to put up a lot of money to get the Sky Blues to budge.
