37% tackle success, 2 fouls per game, 6% conversion – stats may put Man City off Pogba [Opinion]

Manchester City have been linked with a move for Paul Pogba with Pep Guardiola believed to be an admirer of the Manchester United midfielder, but the two have contrasting styles so it would be a shock if he made the switch.

The 29-year-old is out of contract in the coming weeks and has no intention of signing a new deal at Old Trafford, so he’s expected to leave the club on a free transfer. It makes sense that City would be interested in a player of his stature, but Pogba has flaws that may drive Guardiola mad.

The French international has made 20 Premier League appearances this season, scoring one goal with nine assists. Pogba has made 24 chances, had 39 successful dribbles and completed 83.5% of his passes, but he’s guilty of prolifigacy in front of goal and doesn’t provide a lot of protection in midfield.

The 29-year-old has a 37% tackle success rate and averages two fouls per game this season. He’s only scored with 6% of his shots since the 2019/20 campaign too, so Pogba can be wasteful at times.

Sami Mokbel and Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail say City wouldn’t be the only side making a move for Pogba either, as Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are montoring the situation, but the French international isn’t ruling out a switch to the Etihad.

Ultimately, Pogba is dribbled past more frequently than City’s midfielders and he commits more fouls, so would he really improve the squad?
