Aymeric Laporte is back to being a regular at Manchester City, but The Sun say his long-term future is uncertain amid interest from Barcelona. The 27-year-old was ‘unhappy’ with a lack of playing time last season and was rumoured to be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium.
Laporte has since forced his way back into the side, however, so it remains to be seen if he’d be sold now. The French-born Spanish international has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals, forging a solid defensive partnership with Ruben Dias.
Forgetting that Laporte is getting more game time, Barcelona’s pursuit of the centre-back may falter as he wouldn’t come cheap – The Sun believe City would want their £57m back if they were to sell him, and the 27-year-old has a salary worth £120k-per-week/£6.2m-a-year.
The Catalans are in over £1bn worth of debt and took out a loan to sign Ferran Torres in January, so can they really afford Laporte next summer? Barca are hopeful of a summer cash injection and their plan is to pair Laporte with his former teammate Eric Garcia, who left City over the summer, but why would he be allowed to leave given his importance?
In other news, Jayden Braff could leave Man City next summer
