Raheem Sterling is out of contract at Manchester City in 2023 and has so far turned down the opportunity to sign an extension, so his future at the Etihad Stadium is uncertain. The 26-year-old admitted being unhappy with a lack of playing time last season and opened to door to a departure if his situation didn’t improve.
Sean Kearns of the Metro says City are now open to selling Sterling and would accept a bid of around £45m. The England international earns £300k-per-week/£15.6m-a-year in Manchester, so a deal up to his 30th birthday would set clubs back around £107.4m. Whether a suitor commit to paying that in January remains to be seen, however.
Sterling, who boasts 116 goals and 89 assists in 307 games for City, has started only 6/15 games across the board in 2021/22 and 3/9 games in the Premier League, but it’s not like the Sky Blues to sell valuable assets midway through the season – City tend to broker loan moves away for youngsters and out-of-favour players in January.
Clubs will now be aware of Sterling’s potential availability, but will City get the money they’re requesting? Time will tell.
