Report: Man City ‘firm admirers’ of £108.2m striker with more goals than Gabriel Jesus

|

Serio Aguero could be leaving Manchester City when his contract expires this summer while Gabriel Jesus’ long-term future is uncertain due to concerns over his consistency, so the Daily Mail believe City could sign a ‘marquee striker’ ahead of next season.

The Sky Blues are ‘firm admirers’ of Joao Felix, but it remains to be seen if Atletico Madrid will let him go as he’s an important player under Diego Simeone. The 21-year-old has five years remaining on his deal at the Wanda Metropolitano, so City would have to pay a tidy sum to procure his signature.

Felix joined Atleti from Benfica for €126m (£108.2m) in 2019 and has gone on to make 67 appearances in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and supplying eight assists (Transfermarkt). The Portuguese international, who’s netted two goals in 11 games for his country, is also enjoying his most prolific campaign in Spain.

Felix has scored seven goals and made five assists in 23 La Liga games, more goals in the top-flight than Gabriel Jesus (6) has managed this season, so he would improve City’s attack. Whether the Sky Blues can afford to match his £108.2m asking price remains to be seen, however, and there’s no suggestion that Atleti want him gone from Madrid either.
