Report: Man City ‘hope to complete deal’ for 21 y/o with 36 goals and 25 assists in 96 games

Manchester City are second in the Premier League for shots (18.3 per game), second in the Premier League for goals (55 from 23 games) and second in the Premier League for shut outs (3), so they don’t have a problem putting the ball in the back of the net.

The Sky Blues still haven’t replaced Sergio Aguero since he left last summer, but BBC Sport say Pep Guardiola will be pushing to bring in another striker by the end of the season. One player they ‘hope to complete a deal’ for is Julian Alvarez – a 21-year-old striker who joined River Plate in 2015.

Alvarez has made 96 appearances in all competitions for River, scoring 36 goals with 25 assists. He’s featured five times for the Argentina national team too, so his career is going in the right direction.

The highly-rated 21-year-old has less than 12 months on his contract at the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti and may not extend his stay beyond 2022 given City’s interest.

The Daily Mail said days ago that City are closing in on a deal for Alvarez that could set them back £15m, so might he prove to be a bargain?
