Report: Man City ‘take an interest’ in 21 y/o described as ‘cheeky’ and the next Neymar

Manchester City have ‘taken an interest’ in Ajax winger Antony Matheus dos Santos who’s making a real name for himself in the Eredivisie, says El Nacional. The 21-year-old, who has been compared to Neymar, is described as ‘cheeky’ and a talented player with a bright future.

City aren’t short of players in his position with Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Ferran Torres at their disposal, but it appears they’re still looking to strengthen their attack, hence their alleged interest in Christopher Nkunku.

Antony joined Ajax on a five-year deal from Sao Paulo in 2020 and has gone on to make 51 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals with 12 assists. The Brazilian international had a hand in 17 goals from 32 Eredivisie games last season, earning him City’s attention.

Ajax paid £14m for the 21-year-old and would request a lot more money now – his market value is up more than 50%. El Nacional say Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid are also monitoring Antony’s progress, so there will be stiff competition for his signature, thus driving up the asking price.
