Report: Man City ‘watching’ 22 y/o with more goals than Sterling and assists than Mahrez

|

Manchester City have Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres at their disposal, but reports in Italy suggest they’re considering adding another forward to the ranks. City are ‘watching’ Rafael Leao who’s been in better form of late, but it remains to be seen if they’d make a move given how overstocked they are in his position.

Leao joined AC Milan on a five-year deal from LOSC Lille in 2019 and has gone on to make 92 appearances in all competitions, scoring 18 goals with 12 assists. He boasts one goal contribution every 179 minutes on average and has had a hand in eight goals across the board this campaign.

The 22-year-old has scored more Serie A goals (4) than Sterling (3) and more assists in the league (2) than Mahrez (1), so he might improve Pep Guardiola’s attack. But it’s unlikely Leao would ever start ahead of the existing crop of talent, so it makes little sense for City to sign him.

The Premier League defending champions have a more fervent need to replace Sergio Aguero after releasing him over the summer, so this story involving Leao should be taken with a pinch of salt.
