Report: Man City ‘will look to sell’ 27 y/o if contract talks fail to progress

|

Raheem Sterling’s future at Manchester City remains up in the air as little progress has been made on contract talks. The 27-year-old could leave on a free transfer in 2023, but 90min say the Sky Blues are trying to tie him down to a new deal. City ‘will look to sell’ Sterling this summer if talks fall through, however, as they’re unwilling to lose him on a free transfer next year.

Sterling has made 47 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 17 goals with nine assists. The England international played in every Champions League game, albeit making substitute appearances in their two-legged semi-final clash with Real Madrid and finished the domestic campaign strongly, so things are more positive than they were last year.

Sterling started 13 of City’s 17 league games in 2022, so he’s back to being an important player under Pep Guardiola. And with Riyad Mahrez also being out of contract in 2023, City can ill afford to lose another wide forward. It could be a nervous summer of negotiations for a club that normally tie down their important assets well before their deals run down.
