City January signing future looks bright after CEO’s comments

|

Julian Alvarez was signed by Manchester City in January and loaned back to River Plate for the remainder of the season, but the 22-year-old will be looked at back in Manchester before a decision is made on his future.

Alvarez is a talented striker who is coming off the back of a prolific season in Argentina, but he’s likely to play second fiddle to Erling Haaland now the 21 y/o has officially signed from Borussia Dortmund.

There have been offers to loan Alvarez next season, but City don’t appear keen to let him go. CEO Ferran Soriano told Martin Blackburn of The Sun (h/t Fabrizio Romano): “We’ve had many offers from clubs to loan Julian Alvarez – but he is not going to leave.

“He will do pre-season with us and I think he will stay. Barçelona were not interested”. With 50 goals and 29 assists from 113 games at River, it’s easy to see why City won’t be loaning him.

Alvarez has scored 14 goals with four assists in 17 games across the board this season, notably grabbing six goals in one Copa Libertadores outing, so his future looks bright.

And now City want to run the rule over him back in Manchester, so there’s every chance he could be lining up for Pep Guardiola’s men next season. It’s probably the best move.
