Report: Player open to Man City departure amid interest from Serie A giants

|

Aymeric Laporte wants out of Manchester City this summer after falling down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola and The Times say he may be offered an escape route by Juventus.

The 27-year-old finds himself behind John Stones and Ruben Dias at centre-back and even saw Nathan Ake playing ahead of him in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, so the writing appears to on the wall.

Laporte joined City from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 and has gone on to make 111 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals with three assists. The Spanish international lost his starting place last season, however, making 27/50 appearances across the board, so it’s no surprise why he wants to leave.

Juventus have Matthijs de Ligt, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Radu Dragusin and Daniele Rugani at centre-back, but Bonucci is 34 years of age while Chiellini Is 37, so the Old Lady will eventually need replacements.

And if Laporte is happy to make the switch, City have a decision to make whether to let him leave and for what price. The 27-year-old still has four years remaining on his deal at the Etihad Stadium and cost City £58.5m, so Juve may have to pay a tidy sum.
