Report reveals when Julian Alvarez could return for Man City

|

Manchester City have played two games since the domestic resumed following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and Julian Alvarez is still nowhere to be seen. The 22-year-old was given an extended break following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and isn’t expected back until next week.

According to James Ducker of the Guardian: ‘Alvarez is due to report back after City’s game against Everton on Saturday.’ The Argentine international won the World Cup on December 18 and has been on holiday ever since, but his return looks just days away now.

Alvarez will miss a third game for City but should be in contention to feature against Chelsea on Thursday, January 5. He’s made 20 appearances in all competitions for City this season, scoring seven goals with two assists, so it’s been a good campaign for club and country.

While an asset to City, Alvarez’s absence hasn’t harmed the Sky Blues with consecutive wins and six goals scored since the World Cup, but Pep Guardiola will be happy to have him back in the coming days.

The Argentine showed outstanding levels of industry and a willingness to sacrifice for the national team, so he will be a useful foil alongside Erling Haaland at City.
