Dereli nearly set a world record by allowing 16 minutes stoppage time during a match between Denizlispor & Fenerbahce in 2006. It was the last game of the season, which Fenebahce had to win for the Turkish championship.
The 90 minutes ended in a draw, however speculation was rife when suggestions circulated around Turkey that Dereli adding as much time as possible to give his favourite team, Fenerbahce an unfair opportunity to win. Incidentally they didn’t!
