Manchester City have been linked with a move for Antonee Robinson and could lodge a bid for the £20m-rated left-back over the summer to replace Joao Cancelo.
The 25-year-old has been a regular at high-flying Fulham who are 7th in the Premier League after 21 games, but is Robinson good enough to play under Pep Guardiola?
Robinson was once linked with AC Milan before a deal fell through over a failed medical, but he’s gone on to impress in West London, catching the eye of City as they scour the transfer market for a left-back. So Vital Man City looked at his numbers to see if he’d improve Guardiola’s defence.
The US international has made 18 Premier League appearances this season, averaging more tackles per game (1.6) than Manuel Akanji (1.4), Nathan Ake (1.1), John Stones (0.9), Rico Lewis (0.8), Ruben Dias (0.5), Aymeric Laporte (0.4), Sergio Gomez (0.4) and Kyle Walker (0.2)
He’s averaged more interceptions per game (1.1) than Dias (0.9), Ake (0.9), Akanji (0.6), Walker (0.4), Gomez (0.4), Stones (0.4), Laporte (0.2) and Lewis (0.1) too, so Robinson has been better at turning over possession in the Premier League than nearly all of City’s defenders.
Robinson’s composure in possession (77.1% pass completion) ranks him second from bottom in the City squad, so it’s an area he would need to work on. The 25-year-old has also created more or as many chances per game (0.6) as Lewis (0.6), Laporte (0.6), Walker (0.4), Gomez (0.4), Stones (0.4), Ake (0.4), Akanji (0.2) and Dias (0.2), so he’d still fit right in.
Robinson boasts more successful dribbles per game (0.8) and more accurate crosses per game (0.8) than all but three City players in the squad, so he might be a great signing.
