‘Still working on it’ – Fabrizio Romano gives update on Man City’s pursuit of £133m man

|

Manchester City have made it a summer priority to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund as Pep Guardiola could lose Bernardo Silva amid interest from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. He needs a player who can contribute goals and turnover possession, so there’s fewer better options than the 19-year-old.

Bellingham’s fine form in Germany and for England sees him on the radar of Liverpool and Real Madrid, so City have a battle on their hands to procure his signature. Fabrizio Romano has given an update on their pursuit, telling Caught Offside that City are ‘still working on Jude Bellingham deal’, so it’s clear Guardiola won’t be giving up.

The 19-year-old has made 116 appearances in all competitions since joining Dortmund on a five-year deal from Birmingham City in 2020, scoring 20 goals with 24 assists.

Bellingham would be joint-third in the City squad for league goals (4) and joint-third for assists (4) while being first for tackles (2.9 per game) and interceptions (1.3 per game), so he’s the perfect replacement for Silva.

Dortmund are resigned to losing the midfielder, but they might request up to €150m (£133m) for his signature, so City would have to break their transfer record to sign him. That might require a significant selling summer.
