‘The best’ – fans laud ‘amazing’ Man City man after ‘class’ performance v Club Brugge

Manchester City enjoyed a 4-1 win over Club Brugge in Wednesday’s Champions League clash and Joao Cancelo was one of many players to impress at the Etihad Stadium. The 27-year-old had a hand in three goals on the night and was praised by supporters on social media.

Cancelo hit the post with a curled effort from distance, whipped in a low cross for Phil Foden to tap-in from close range, whipped in a medium-height cross for Riyad Mahrez to head home and set up Gabriel Jesus to finish from close range after advancing with the ball into the box.

Against Club Brugge, Cancelo played for 90 minutes, had 134 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 90.7% of his 108 passes, created seven chances, had three shots, whipped in two crosses, had two tackles, made one clearance and had three interceptions.

The 27-year-old has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals with four assists. Despite being a natural right-back, Cancelo has spent most of the campaign as a makeshift left-back and is likely to keep his place after Wednesday’s performance.

Oleksandr Zinchenko will be forced to wait in the wings.
