‘The biggest challenge’ – Pundit says 21 y/o Man City man needs to adapt to ‘physical’ PL

Manchester City moved quickly to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer and big things are expected of the 21-year-old next season, but Kevin Campbell believes keeping him fit will be a task in itself.

Haaland’s had injury problems throughout his time at Dortmund and had to have his minutes managed, so the Premier League might be a rude awakening.

The Norwegian international joined BVB in 2020, missing 10 games in 2020/21 due to a knee problem and torn muscle fibre while missing 16 games in 2021/22 due to muscle injuries and a hip problem.

City do have state of the art facilities to aid in player recovery and have excellent medical staff who will keep tabs on players who may be more susceptible to injuries, so Haaland is in good hands.

Campbell says the 21-year-old may take some time to adjust to the Premier League, however, telling Football Insider: “Keeping him fit will be their biggest challenge.

“It may take Haaland a bit of time to get used to the Premier League because it is a lot more physical, but I have no doubts about him coming good. He will score goals. 100 per cent.”

Haaland knows where the back of the net is, scoring 86 goals with 23 assists from 89 games for Dortmund, but his minutes may need to be managed. Pep Guardiola frequently rotates his squad, so that might limit the risk of Haaland picking up knocks.
