Confused? You most assuredly will be. UEFA’s rules about B lists and Home Grown players and and all the rest of it lead us to a Man City Champions League Group Stage Squad…

As City enter our holy grail, the promised land at long last, an achievement unthinkable a little over 3 years ago, the eagerly anticipated squad that will take on Bayerm Munich, Villareal and Napoli looks like this…

Goalkeeper: Hart, Taylor, Pantilimon, Johansen*.

Defence: Richards, Lescott, Clichy, Zabaleta, Kompany, Kolo Toure, Kolarov, Onuoha, Savic, Cunningham*, Veseli*, Wabara*, Tse*, Smith*.

Midfield: Barry, Milner, A Johnson, De Jong, Yaya Toure, Silva, Nasri, Chantler*, Helan*, Roman*.

Attack: Dzeko, Tevez, Aguero, Balotelli, Bunn*, Robinson*, Tchuimeni-Nimely*, Robinson*.

* The B Listers

The squad list can total 25 players but Roberto Mancini and his backroom team have opted to select 23 Blues in the ‘A List.’ Comeback kid Owen Hargreaves is a noteable absentee alongside Wayne Bridge.

Should City reach the knockout phase, Mancio gets to review his squad with Kiddo and Platty.

Go on then.

Key squad related extracts from the labyrinth of UEFA Champions League rules:

No club may have more than 25 players on List A during the season. As a minimum, places 18 to 25 on List A (eight places) are reserved exclusively for ‘locally trained players’ and no club may have more than four ‘association-trained players’ listed in places 18 to 25 on List A…

If a club has fewer than eight locally trained players in its squad (i.e. in places 18 to 25 on List A), then the maximum number of players on List A is reduced accordingly…

Each club is entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season.
