The level of disproportionate hatred aimed at City is akin to racism for me. If it was just patronising claptrap aimed at ‘little old self mocking City’ then, there would have been some humour in putting us down. We are everyone’s friend as long as we are a figure of fun and no threat to their favourites but wo-be-tide that we might threaten the status-quo courtesy of Arab oil and ambition.
Chelsea never had anything like the unbalanced venom that has been aimed at City simply because we want to be a success by playing exciting football with a true landmark signing (paid for with our owner`s cash, not a loan to the club from our benefactor or a bank). Yet our money is talked of as being dirty and immoral! Think about it.
How dare we attempt to bring a true world class player to this league, lifting our profile and chances of success beyond recognition and, as a by-product ensure everyone else’s high TV revenue stream at the next negotiation. The en-mass hatred (apart from the lone voice of Martin Samuel in The Mail) has been disgusting. Build slowly and possibly never get there and we will respect you.
That bunch of scumbags will never respect us because they hate our owners and their money and by association, they hate us. They have all made that fact obvious since the takeover with their constant negative sniping aimed at destabilising City. The only reason it has not tipped into hatred sooner is that Hughes has managed to do the unfathomable and make a sow’s ear out of a silk purse so far.
I have read a few on here over the last week say maybe we should start slow and do what the press want. Don’t be sucked in by the negativity and the understandable need to be approved. We are the ‘unclean’ now so we are going to have a long wait because our success is not wanted by anyone other than our owners and us.
Acceptance will never happen until we are a real dominant force and our club learns the strength of a good Public Relations department/company, an active legal dept and shares in SKY.
There are many out there who get an ego trip constantly putting us down and that says everything about their bias and inadequacies, not ours.
We have spent twenty years building a youth set-up so surely that counts as a slow build up to success. I hope our owners go for another world class star sooner rather than later and put two fingers up to the press and jealous fans. Do not let the events of the past week crush our ambition and make us think that we are small time. That mindset will only lead to the mediocrity we have endured over the last 30 years.
Do you think we should stick with the owners plans of world domination via an improved youth team output mixed with world class internationals and at least one landmark signing to accelerate our drive for success ala Barcelona, or do you feel we should spend our money, with press approval, buying mid range internationals and hope they can be blended to bring us limited success in a similar vein to Everton?
