French sporting newswires are alive to the uncertainty surrounding Gael Clichy’s Arsenal future. The Citizens are said to be preparing a stealth raid for the gooner…

The 25 year old who joined the Arsenal from Cannes for £250,000 8 years ago is alleged to be ready to move on as Arsene Wenger begins to overhaul his squad following another rubbish season. Clichy has one year left on his contract and AS Roma are rumoured to have a delegation already in London pursuing the defender. But if City do become involved, Roma officials are aware that they will not be able to compete financially.

City’s scouting tentacles are reaching France itself. Lyon left back Aly Cissokho is alledgedly on the radar. Tall and fast, the 23 year old fits the bill for a Mancini squad built upon young players with one eye on the future.

As Aleksander Kolarov shifts even more uneasily in his deckchair, up pops Everton’s Leighton Baines again. The man with the bitterest manager in football is rumoured to be the subject of a player and cash part exchange. Most hacks are playing pin the unwanted player on the donkey where City are concerned now so place yer bets.

Elsewhere, resurgent-ish Liverpool are supposed to be in for Jimmy Milner and Aston Villa are stalking Seamus Given. Emmanuel Adebayor meanwhile continues to ring up any newsdesk he can to talk about himself.

Perhaps the most bizarre City related public utterance came from Italy this week and it wasn’t City’s dapper manager at the mic. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis responded to Mancio quotes regarding the search for a new striker. Most notably Napoli’s Argentinian goalsmithEzequiel Lavezzi:

‘…this story makes me laugh. My dear Mancini, I am sorry for you. Evidently, you anticipate moves of the Sheikh that are not true to reality.’

Charming!
