‘We will see’ – Manager praises ‘great’ Man City defender as club eye summer deal

|

Taylor Harwood-Bellis could be on his way out of Manchester City this summer as Burnley are trying to sign him ahead of next season. James Tarkowski and Ben Mee have left Burnley after their contracts expired, so new manager Vincent Kompany is looking to his former club to replace the pair.

He recently said via Manchester Evening News: “Taylor, first of all, is a great lad and player. A leader and someone I have a lot of time for, so we will see.”

Harwood-Bellis has struggled for playing time under Pep Guardiola and finds himself behind Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake in the pecking order, so the 20-year-old is left with no choice but to seek a fourth loan move away in 18 months.

He’s made 21 appearances for the U18s, 10 appearances for the U19s and 38 appearances for the U23s. But Harwood-Bellis has featured only eight times for Man City’s first-team, so it’s hard to see him dethroning Dias, Stones, Laporte or Ake next season.

The England U21 international made 19 appearances for Blackburn Rovers (2021), 19 appearances for RSC Anderlecht (2021/22) and 23 appearances for Stoke City (2021/22), so he should be open to another temporary spell elsewhere.

Harwood-Bellis played under Kompany at Anderlecht, so he could jump at the chance to renew acquaitances. It remains to be seen if he could leave City permanently, however.
