‘You don’t expect it’ – Man City player criticised for ‘moment of madness’

|

Despite being on the winning team, Ederson won’t remember Manchester City’s 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur too fondly as he was culpable for both goals his side conceded.

The 29-year-old played a poor pass out of the back to Rodri who lost the ball, resulting in Dejan Kulusevski finishing from close range, and Amos Murphy of the City Report was critical of his “moment of madness”.

He said in Friday’s podcast: “Moment of absolute madness and it’s from people you don’t expect it from. We’ve seen Ederson make a mistake in terms of his goalkeeping (but) we’ve rarely seen him make a mistake with him passing it straight to a defender.

“In that situation, it’s (normally) what he does best. You could stick him in midfield and he won’t be making mistakes like that.” Ederson has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, conceding 24 goals with 10 clean sheets.

The Brazilian international has let in seven more goals than his expected tally (14.8) and has a save percentage (64.4%) which sees him fourth from bottom in the Premier League goalkeeper charts.

And in the same game, Ederson would go on to parry a cross into the path of Emerson Royal who headed home from close range, so it wasn’t a vintage showing between the sticks.

He should keep his place against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon, but the 29-year-old does have a point to prove.
