Eric Garcia leaving Manchester City for Barcelona in the summer transfer window isn’t a secret, but his move hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.

Ramon Salmurri told Catalunya Ràdio that new president Joan Laporta ‘will sign’ the 20-year-old ‘in the coming days’, however, so the uncertainty may soon come to an end.

Garcia joined City from Barca in 2017 and has gone on to make only 33 appearances in all competitions. The Spanish international has featured in just 10 games from a possible 45 this season (Transfermarkt), as he’s behind Ruben Dias, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte in the pecking order.

Pep Guardiola rates Garcia highly and says the central defender is “like a son” to him, but he’s resigned to letting him go. Garcia is out of contract this summer and has been unwilling to put pen to paper on an extension, so his departure has been on the cards for some time.

Barca didn’t wait to provide him with an escape route and Laporta wants to make him their first signing of the summer. Despite failing to make the grade at City, Garcia has a bright future and Guardiola’s endorsement should be music to Barca’s ears.
