Despite Pep Guardiola already having Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones at centre-back, Inter Milan believe Manchester City could make a move for Alessandro Bastoni.
According to FCInterNews (h/t Football Italia), City are battling Tottenham Hotspur for the 23-year-old’s signature. The report says Inter are desperate to tie Bastoni down to a new deal beyond 2024 to fend off any interest, but City aren’t likely to make a move as they’re overstocked at the back.
Tottenham don’t exactly have a fervent need for the Italian international either as Antonio Conte has Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Davinson Sánchez, Clément Lenglet and Japhet Tanganga at his disposal, so Inter need not panic.
Bastoni joined the Nerazzurri from Atalanta in 2017 and has gone on to make 134 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with 12 assists. The 23-year-old has been a regular under Simone Inzaghi this season, but his future is uncertain as his contract nears the last 18 months and FCInterNews say Inter can’t pay him as much as an equivalent Premier League club.
Nevertheless, City won’t bring in another central defender unless they part company with an existing player.
