Manchester City have confirmed the new five year deal for defender Vincent Kompany.

Our 28 year old skipper is now tied to the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2019, meaning he will have at that stage been with us for eleven years.

He joins Aleksandar Kolarov, Samir Nasri and David Silva in agreeing new deals ahead of the coming 2014-15 campaign.

Speaking to the Official Site the Belgian said.

‘When I arrived in 2008, I could never have dreamed that we could achieve what we have over the last six years but, for me, this is just the start of the journey. This team is stronger now than it’s ever been – we have competition for places in every position and a dressing room full of exceptional, motivated people who want to continue making history together.’

Kompany goes on to say that so far lifted two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup have been ‘four of the best days of my life’ but he knows there are many more of those days ahead for us now.

‘Why would I go anywhere else? There are so many new landmarks and records to chase and I hope signing this new contract is taken as a statement of intent that I want to keep fighting for trophies for this special club.’

Edin Dzeko has also confirmed that he is in talks about a new contract as well, stating ‘it looks very good in terms of staying here a bit longer’ so we wait for news on that one.
