Pep Guardiola confirmed the worst-kept ‘secret’ that Sergio Aguero is ‘close to agreeing a deal’ to Barcelona. The 32-year-old has spent 10 years at Manchester City since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011, but he’s out of contract this summer and didn’t have his deal renewed.
Barcelona have shown a lot interest in Aguero as they need to bolster their attack without spending a premium in the transfer market due to their spiralling financial situation. Aguero was keen for the switch and now Guardiola has revealed the move is almost complete.

He told BBC’s Match of the Day: “Maybe I reveal a secret. Maybe he is close to agreeing a deal for the club of my heart – for Barcelona. He is going to be playing alongside the best player of all time, Messi. I’m pretty sure he is going to enjoy. And maybe Barcelona are stronger and stronger with him on the pitch.”
Aguero has scored 260 goals and made 73 assists in 389 games for City, so he’s more than a prolific striker. He bagged 100 goals and had 46 assists in 230 games for Atletico Madrid, so he’s proven himself in Spain too.
Barcelona are signing a brilliant centre-forward and only have to cover his wages, which are said to be considerably lower than he was getting at City, so he may be a bargain acquisition this summer.
