David Ornstein says Ligue 1 side are ‘in talks’ with Man City over youngster

Josh Adam has an uncertain future at Manchester City. The 18-year-old has spent the season with the U21s and isn’t close to being called up to the first-team, so City are planning to move him on in January after holding discussions with a suitor.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, FC Lorient are ‘in talks’ with City over a move for the attacking-midfielder. Adam has scored 11 goals with 10 assists from 44 games for the U18s, made six appearances for the U19s and scored one goal from 14 games for the U21s.

The Scotland youth international hasn’t done enough at City to get the attention of Guardiola, and his contract is up in 18 months, so a move could be agreed this month to allow City to cash in while his value is high. Ornstein says Adam will travel to France over the weekend and noted that City and Lorient are confident of reaching an agreement.

With Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne for competition, Adam stood little chance of playing for the first-team. The 18-year-old has joined from Celtic in 2020 but hasn’t progressed enough to warrant keeping.
