Everton ‘asking about’ Man City player but Pep Guardiola ‘refuses’ to do business

|

Kalvin Phillips hasn’t enjoyed the best debut season at Manchester City as he’s been short of fitness and playing time, so it wasn’t surprising to see a Premier League side show an interest in January.

West Ham United were linked with Declan Rice’s future uncertain, but the story eventually went away as Phillips wouldn’t be sold due to him providing necessary cover in midfield for Rodri.

Phil Thomas of The Sun says Everton are the latest side ‘asking about’ signing the 27-year-old, however, after failing to bring in Conor Gallagher from Chelsea. Sean Dyche is likely to be disappointed though as City are ‘refusing’ to do business due to a lack of depth in the squad.

The England international has made only eight appearances in all competitions since joining from Leeds United over the summer. And while Pep Guardiola has mostly kept Phillips on the bench, he still can’t afford to loan him out because there isn’t enough time to scour a replacement.

Phillips will want to prove himself, as he won’t be happy sitting on the bench for an entire season, but Everton aren’t an attractive proposition as relegation favourites. You cant fault the Toffees’ ambition in dire times, but Dyche is barking up the wrong tree.
