Frank Lampard?

The reports are growing, and growing strong now that City are going to bring in Frank Lampard on a short-term loan deal?

Last month 36-year-old Lampard signed a two-year deal with City’s MLS franchise New York City but with that season not starting until March 2015 he would be without any football for quite some time!

With that in mind he has been looking for a loan deal somewhere.

Another New York City signing is former Spanish striker David Villa, he’ll spend three-months on loan with our Australian partner Melbourne FC and that was something that Lampard, who parted company with Chelsea this summer after 13-years, was mooted as doing too.

The England international, or should that be former, now looks like signing a possible 6-month loan deal to come to the Etihad for the start of the 2014/15 season though until sometime in January….

With BBC Sport, in my view usually one of the more reliable sources when it comes to ‘reports’, now carrying a story that Lampard will be signing it looks as though this will be happening.

Do City need Lampard? That is open to debate but his proven experience and quality could be an asset on a short-term deal.

It would be interesting to see how much football he actually played but with plenty of games to play next season as a well known supermarket would say, ‘every little helps’ I suppose.

How great would it be to see the smirk wiped off Mourinho’s face if a legendary player from Stamford Bridge that he disposed of helped to play an important role, given he will spend quite some time with us, in helping us to retain our title!
