‘He isn’t too bothered’ – Pundit makes Pep Guardiola admission

|

Manchester City performed well in the transfer market this summer, spending £125m on new players while making £188.8m from the sale of unwanted ones. City have competition in every position again and made £63.8m in the process, so the club are running like a well-oiled machine.

City replaced Oleksandr Zinchenko, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus while turning a profit and Paul Robinson believes Pep Guardiola ‘isn’t too bothered’ about the players he lost because he’s managed to improve the squad without a net spend.

He told Football Insider: “They are incredible figures, especially when you take into account the fact that Pep Guardiola never sells a player that he wants to keep at the club.

“They have sold to rivals which shows that he isn’t too bothered about losing them. The players that have come in are superb. I think they have replaced with better players and made money while doing it.”

City replaced Zinchenko with Sergio Gomez who recently impressed on his full debut. They replaced Gabriel Jesus with Erling Haaland who boasts 12 goals in eight games. And they had Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer who can step up after Raheem Sterling’s departure.

City signed a fifth centre-back in Manuel Akanji on deadline day too, so Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte will now be able to deputise at left-back in an emergency without the side being short defensively.

There’s plenty of depth in the squad without City breaking the bank, so they’re an example to other clubs on how to get value for money in the transfer market.
