There’s been a lot of talk about Jack Grealish’s performances at Manchester City over the last 13 months as he’s fallen below expectations. Ally McCoist was the latest to weigh in on the 27-year-old’s struggles, believing a lack of confidence is why he’s underperforming.
Grealish had a fantastic last two seasons at Aston Villa and shone for England at Euro 2020, so he was tipped for greatness after making the £100m move to Manchester City. He’s not come close to realising his potential at the Etihad Stadium, however, and McCoist says the change in playing style might also be a factor.

He said on talkSPORT: “He’s clearly to me isn’t playing with the same (confidence). There’s a freedom he was playing with at Villa that he’s not playing with (at City). At Villa, there was an opportunity to hit on the counter-attack with one v ones.
“There’d be more space for Grealish (at Ailla than City). But I don’t think it’s a massive deal. Would Guardiola want more from Grealish? I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. But I think he’s confident that it will come.” Grealish has scored just one goal without making an assist from six games in all competitions this season.
In his debut campaign, he managed only three goals and three assists from 26 Premier League outings. Grealish has failed to score in 38 of his 45 appearances since joining City and he’s failed to make an assist in 40 of them, so he’s not having the desired impact.
