‘They’ve gifted them’ – Adrian Durham criticises Man City for helping title rivals

|

Arsenal are top of the Premier League with 18 points from seven games this season while Manchester City are second with 17 points, but Adrian Durham believes Pep Guardiola does have to worry about the Gunners’ title hunt after ‘gifting them’ Gabriel Jesus over the summer.

There was surprise when City sold the talented 25-year-old to Arsenal and he’s had a fantastic start to life at the Emirates, scoring four goals with three assists from seven games, so Durham believes his fitness could be the difference in the title race.

He said on talkSPORT: “I’ve got two doubts on (Arsenal) sustaining a title challenge. One is how good Man City are. The other doubt is Gabriel Jesus (who is) the key to all this. It’s about Man City gifting them Jesus. So if anything happens to him that could be their only problem.”

Vital Man City were critical of Guardiola’s decision to strengthen their title rivals by selling Raheem Sterling to Chelsea and Jesus to Arsenal, but City clearly felt their replacements (Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez) were good enough to steer them to glory this season.

Jesus had a good final campaign at City, scoring 13 goals with 12 assists from 41 games, so Arsenal probably couldn’t believe their luck when they procured his signature.
