Man City man in poor form this season, should Pep Guardiola be worried? [Opinion]

|

Ederson has struggled for consistency this season. He’s been guilty of dropping crosses, has been caught under the ball at times and has made errors that nearly led to goals.

But outside of poor decision-making, the 29-year-old let in a soft goal against Crystal Palace and two soft goals against Newcastle, so might Pep Guardiola be worried about his form?

Where will Manchester City finish in the Premier League this season?

Ederson has made eight appearances in all competitions this season, conceding nine goals with four clean sheets. He’s performing 1.6 goals worse off (6) than his expected goals tally (4.4) and only has a 45.5% save percentage from shots on target faced. Only Leicester City have a worse save percentage in the Premier League.

Ederson’s save total of 1 per game is down from last season (1.5) and the campaign before (1.8). He’s also stopping less crosses (3.3%) than last season (8.8%) and hasn’t been as good distributing the ball from distance (52.9% pass completion from 40+ yards) than in 2021/22 (59.2%), so the decline is clear to see.

The 29-year-old is averaging more passes per game (27.5) than last season (25.9) and is finding his teammates slightly more from short distances (89.1% completion to 88.8%), but he needs to improve his handling.

Again, this is another pointless article. You didn’t compare how many shots on goal there were in the comparative seasons. You didn’t compare how many corners there were between the seasons. You didn’t compare how many passes there were between the seasons. To quote, “there are lies, damned lies and statistics” !!!
