Zach Steffen was sent to Middlesbrough on a season-long loan after falling down the pecking order at Manchester City, but it doesn’t appear his stint at the Riverside Stadium is going to plan.
The 27-year-old made two goalkeeping errors in City’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Liverpool that he’d been unable to recover from, so his temporary move away was to recapture some form.
Sadly, Steffen has been picking the ball out of his goal too frequently and is currently injured, so things could be better in the North-East. His World Cup hopes hang in the balance too.
Where will Manchester City finish in the Premier League this season?

The US international has made five Championship appearances for Middlesbrough this season, conceding nine goals while failing to keep a clean sheet.
Steffen has a save percentage of 57.1% from 21 shots on target faced, which is lower than 16/20 Premier League teams and worse than Hull City’s Matt Ingram (74%) who’s conceded the most goals in the Championship (15), so he’s not done well at shutting sides out.
The 27-year-old has missed Boro’s last three league games due to a knee injury but is expected back this month. Time will tell if he can turn things around on the pitch, though Stefan Ortega’s arrival likely ends any chance of playing for City again.
It’s likely time to sell.
