Pep Guardiola is expected to rest a lot of his regulars when Manchester City host Sevilla in Wednesday’s Champions League clash, so it wouldn’t be a shock if Stefan Ortega was given the nod between the sticks over Ederson.
Ortega impressed in City’s 0-0 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday and might be called upon so Ederson can rest ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Fulham.

City have already sealed their place in the Champions League knockouts as group winners, so their meeting with Sevilla is inconsequential. Guardiola won’t want to lose on home soil, but he won’t want to risk injury to his star players if he doesn’t have to.
And after seeing Ortega successfully deputising for Ederson on his full debut for City, he should get another chance to shine. The 29-year-old won’t get a lot of playing time as a backup goalkeeper this season, so Guardiola will use opportunities like Wednesday to play him.
Ortega has been an unused substitute in all 12 of City’s Premier League games and in four of their five Champions League outings. He kept a clean sheet in his only appearance and will hope to shut out Sevilla if he’s called upon this week.
