Man City player out of World Cup, made one appearance with 90 mins of playing time

|

Ederson’s World Cup is over after Brazil crashed out at the quarter-finals. Seleção Canarinho suffered a shock defeat to Croatia on penalties and have bowed out at this stage for the fourth time in the last five World Cups.

Ederson was once again an unused substitute as Alisson got the nod from Tite and watched his counterpart fail to keep out any spot-kick. The 29-year-old has saved five penalties since joining Manchester City in 2017, the last of which came in 2021.

He’s saved three spot-kicks in the Premier League, letting in 17, so Ederson’s domestic record is 15%. Alisson has saved six penalties in the league since joining Liverpool in 2018, letting in 7, so he’s considerably better from 12 yards (46%) than the City stopper.

Ederson had only made one appearance for Brazil in 2022 but did feature once in the World Cup – a full 90 minutes in Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Cameroon. He was an unused substitute in their 2-0 win over Serbia, 1-0 win over Switzerland and 4-1 win over South Korea.

The 29-year-old is indispensable at City, however, making 260 appearances in all competitions, conceding 202 goals with 129 clean sheets.
