Report: Man City director has ‘fixation’ on 64-goal man representing Spain at Euro 2020

Pep Guardiola has Raheem Sterling, Ferran Torres, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez at his disposal, but Manchester City might have their sights set on another wide forward in Mikel Oyarzabal.

Mundo Deportivo say sporting director Txiki Begiristain has a ‘fixation’ on the 24-year-old and is interested in bringing him to the Etihad Stadium, but they may have to wait until the end of Euro 2020 before making an approach.

Oyarzabal was called up to Spain’s 26-man squad by Luis Enrique and has featured in both group games. The 24-year-old has been a regular at club level for the longest time too, making 239 appearances in all competitions for Real Sociedad, scoring 64 goals with 45 assists.

Last season, Oyarzabal scored 13 goals and made 10 assists in 43 games across the board, so he’ll provide a goal threat to City if they signed him. La Real will be keen to keep such a talented player and have him tied down until 2024, but the chance to win major silverware could be too tempting to resist.

Jack Grealish is still City’s preferred transfer target, however.
