Pep Guardiola confirmed Eric Garcia is leaving Manchester City at the end of his contract this summer and confirmed that a move to Barcelona is pending.

Now Fabrizio Romano of the Guardian and Sky Sports confirmed the 20-year-old has ‘signed a pre-contract deal’ with the Catalans giants and will have his move announced at the end of the season (May 23).

Garcia joined City from Barca in 2017 and has gone on to make 25 appearances for the U18s, nine appearances for the U19s, 16 appearances for the U23s and 33 appearances for the first-team.

The Spanish international has struggled for regular opportunities under Guardiola, however, and currently finds himself behind Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake in the pecking order.

Barcelona have Ronald Araujo, Clement Lenglet, Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Oscar Mingueza at centre-back, but Pique is 34 years of age and Umtiti has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou, so there should be room for Garcia.

City could have sold Garcia for £15m in October 2020 but rejected the offer and will now lose him for nothing.
