Man City lose £15.4m after ‘rejected’ October bid, summer exit to ‘break’ Guardiola’s ‘heart’ [Opinion]

Eric Garcia looks on his way out of Manchester City after struggling for playing time and being out of contract this summer, but Pep Guardiola admitted that the situation ‘breaks his heart’.

City will lose the 20-year-old on a free transfer in the coming months but had the opportunity to cash in last October when Barcelona made an official bid. Their decision to reject the offer has backfired as they’re set to lose out on £15.4m.

Garcia joined the Sky Blues from Barca in 2017 and has gone on to make 25 appearances for the U18s, nine appearances for the U19s, 16 appearances for the U23s and 33 appearances in the first-team (Transfermarkt).

The Spanish international has made 10 appearances from a possible 46 across the board this season, spending most of the campaign behind Ruben Dias, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte in the pecking order.

And with Nathan Ake returning from injury, Garcia will have more competition for playing time at the Etihad, so it’s easy to see how he was lured back to Barcelona. He chose not to renew his deal due to a lack of opportunities and now City must be regretting not selling him when they had the chance.
