Man City told not to ‘disrespect’ 28 y/o who’d ‘get 25 goals’ a season if Guardiola signed him

Manchester City are showing interest in Danny Ings as a potential replacement for Sergio Aguero but supporters aren’t convinced he’s good enough to fill the 32-year-old’s shoes. Ian Wright says City shouldn’t ‘disrespect’ Ings, as he believes he ‘could get 25 goals’ a season under Pep Guardiola.

He said on his Wrighty’s House podcast: “I’ve got to mention Ings – you see the link with City. The disrespect people are giving Danny Ings. Why are you doing that? He can press like Pep would want him to, and would stay in the areas to get chance upon chance.

“Danny Ings has got himself into the England squad from a terrible injury which meant he couldn’t do what he wanted to do at Liverpool. It wasn’t his fault. Ings could get 25 goals in that City team at a canter.

Although reaction to the rumours was mixed on social media, Darren Bent has been full of praise for Ings and Ally McCoist believes he could make the difference.

The 28-year-old scored eight goals with three assists in 29 games for Bournemouth, scored 43 goals with 14 assists in 130 games for Burnley, scored four goals with one assist in 25 games for Liverpool and scored 42 goals with nine assists in 92 games for Southampton (Transfermarkt).

Ings has had a hand in 12 goals from 25 games across the board this season, but it remains to be seen if City will make a move for the England international. The Sky Blues are monitoring the progress of Patson Daka, Harry Kane, Darwin Nunez, Edin Dzeko, Romelu Lukaku, Ali Akman, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez and Arek Milik and would prefer one of Mbappe, Kane or Haaland to replace Aguero.

Wright added: “(Ings) got himself back and scoring goals at this level, making it look easy. Now he’s linked with Manchester City, who may not get their main target but need someone in who can finish chances.

“How does that not make sense to people? When you’re talking about astute management, and the recruitment at that level. Look at Ings, if he was backing up Bobby Firmino now, he could link Liverpool’s attack now.”

Ings is a good player, but will he end up at the Etihad Stadium?
