Report: Man City ‘interested’ in ‘quality’ Southampton man as ‘successor’ for 32 y/o

Manchester City are preparing for Sergio Aguero’s exit this summer with a growing list of potential replacements – Patson Daka, Harry Kane, Darwin Nunez, Edin Dzeko, Romelu Lukaku, Ali Akman, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez and Arek Milik.

Sky Sports say Danny Ings is still on their shortlist, however, as City are ‘interested’ in him being a ‘successor’ for Aguero that won’t break the bank. The 28-year-old has been a star at Southampton and has been hailed as a “quality” striker by his manager.

Aguero is out of contract this summer and is no longer commanding a starting place, so this could be his final season at the Etihad Stadium. The 32-year-old has been candid about leaving after 10 years, but he would be a difficult player to replace with 257 goals from 384 games (Transfermarkt).

Ings isn’t a bad option. The 28-year-old has scored 42 goals and made nine assists in 92 games since joining Southampton in 2019 (Transfermarkt). His deal at St Mary’s is up in 2022, so his future is uncertain. City might be able to pressure the Saints into cashing in early rather than risk losing him for nothing, so Ings might be a cheap acquisition.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has raved about him numerous times too, saying last year: “You could see immediately his quality around the box. You could see immediately that he could score goals.”

Time will tell though as the Sky Blues have a lot of players on their radar.

In other news, Man City are ‘working hard’ to sign a £64.6m Aguero replacement and a decision may be ‘finalised’ in the ‘coming weeks’
