Man City player hailed as ‘unbelievable’ and ‘wonderful’ after outstanding season

Phil Foden has been outstanding for Manchester City this season and was nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award.

The 20-year-old wasn’t a regular under Pep Guardiola during the first half of the campaign, but he’s now one of the first names on the teamsheet and one of City’s most important players ahead of their Champions League final against Chelsea.

Ruud Gullit was full of praise for Foden on BBC Sport, saying: “He is unbelievable, he is in the same category as Lionel Messi. He is not exactly like Messi as a player – no-one is – but with his stature, his height, his quickness – he is the same. He is a wonderful player and I’ve loved watching him.”

The England international has made 48 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 15 goals with 10 assists. Foden has played in every Champions League and FA Cup game and frequently contributes goals in the league when he starts.

He’s had a hand in 10 goals in his previous 11 league starts, so Gullit’s praise is warranted. Foden has been one of the best players in the top-flight this year and still has years to continue developing, so his future looks bright. If Foden doesn’t win the PFA Player of the Year award, he be named the PFA Young Player of the Year.
