Report: Man City eye £102m player with more goals than Ilkay Gundogan, club ‘want to keep him’

Manchester City are expected to sign a striker this summer as Sergio Aguero will be on his way out in the coming months, leaving Pep Guardiola with only Gabriel Jesus in attack.

City have been linked with Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland among others, but Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness) say Romelu Lukaku is one player they’ve ‘probed the ground’ for.

The 27-year-old has been outstanding at Inter Milan, showing the form that could convince Guardiola to bring him back to England. Lukaku scored 42 goals and made 13 assists in 96 games for Manchester United (2017 – 2019) but has bagged 60 goals with 13 assists in 86 games for Inter (2019 – present).

This season, the Belgian international has 26 goals in 35 games across the board, which is more than Ilkay Gundogan has managed (16 goals in 34 games). Lukaku is one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, so he may be able to fill the big shoes left by Aguero.

Corriere Dello Sport say Inter are requesting €120m (£102m) for Lukaku and ‘want to keep him’, so time will tell if City can break down their resolve.
