Report: Man City player is ‘close to reaching’ agreement with club after ‘intense negotiations’

It’s no secret that Sergio Aguero will leave Manchester City when his contract expires this summer, but it’s not yet known where he’ll end up. Barcelona look the most likely destination now as TYC Sports say they’ve had ‘intense negotiations’ with Aguero and are ‘close to reaching’ an agreement.

Barcelona are leading the race for the 32-year-old’s signature because they don’t have the resources for lucrative signings this summer. El Mundo say the Catalan giants have debts of over €1.2bn, in part due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but also due to overspending on transfers. Marca say Barca owe €126m in transfer fees alone.

This means they have to be thrifty in the transfer market, so the prospect of signing a striker like Aguero for virtually nothing is very appealing. He’s bagged 257 goals in 385 games for Man City and 41 goals in 97 games for Argentina. And given he’s on the verge of winning a fifth Premier League title, Aguero has the pedigree to play at the Nou Camp.

He’s friends with Messi and might be able to convince the 33-year-old to stay, so the signing makes a lot of sense.
