“Might as well call SWP back”, “No thanks” – Plenty of MCFC fans batter “joke” update

|

According to a report from Italian newspaper Il Mattino via Area Napoli, Man City have ‘come forward‘ for Napoli attacker Dries Mertens surrounding a potential summer bid – prompting many City fans to lambaste the ‘joke’ update.

Mertens, who has started 12 Serie A games for the club this season, scoring six goals and assisting four others, is debatably in the midst of his twilight years at 33-years-old – regardless of his impressive six goals in six Champions League matches.

Would Dries Mertens be a good signing?

Yes, bring him in

No, far too old

This could be the reason why many Sky Blues aren’t exactly impressed with the rumour, even if his record suggests he could be capable back-up to the likes of Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez.

As rumours surround Leroy Sane’s potential summer exit, it seems as if Pep Guardiola could view Mertens as a replacement according to this report, but City supporters don’t seem to fancy a swoop for the Belgian in the slightest.
