Nahuel Bustos was an unused substitute as Sao Paulo enjoyed a 2-1 win over Atlético Clube Goianiense on Friday evening. The 24-year-old has played just once in the Brazilian Serie A since mid-September and must be regretting joining the club over the summer.
Bustos has made the season-long loan switch from Manchester City in August and has gone on to make just five appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal. The Argentine striker has been an unused substitute eight times due to Rogério Ceni preferring Jonathan Calleri and Luciano in attack.

Bustos is contracted with Sao Paulo until the end of the season and the Brazilian outfit having a buying option on the 24-year-old, but it’s hard to see him staying beyond next summer after spending the campaign on the periphery.
If he does return to City in 2023, he’ll have two more years on his contract, but isn’t likely to break into the first-team after failing to make an appearance under Pep Guardiola since joining from Club Atlético Talleres in 2020. Bustos has an uncertain future as his loan club and parent club don’t appear to want him.
The 24-year-old boosted his reputation at Girona (2020 – 2022) with 11 goals in his last league season, but his decision to return to South America has so far backfired.
