Opinion: Man City need to battle for £200k-p/w striker touted as future Aguero replacement

|

According to a report from the Daily Express, the Sky Blues are currently in a tug-of-war with Real Madrid over the signature of star Tottenham striker Harry Kane – with the Englishman failing to rule out a move away from north London if the club doesn’t start winning silverware.

Kane, who has consistently been at the top end of the Premier League scoring charts since bursting on to the scene at Tottenham back in 2014, is now attracting interest from Pep Guardiola as a potential suitor should Gabriel Jesus potentially move on to Juventus in the summer.

Lauded as a potential replacement for club legend Sergio Aguero by Harry Redknapp, the England international could indeed have what it takes to replicate the Argentine’s goalscoring return since he joined the Blues from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.

Going on to become our all-time top scorer, as well as scoring that famous title-clinching goal against Queens Park Rangers in 2012, Aguero’s heroics will be difficult to copy once he departs the Etihad – meaning that Guardiola could go all out on a world-class centre-forward to make up the difference.

Kane, who is currently on £200k-per-week according to Spotrac, could fit the bill as a clinical finisher and may debatably have even more to offer.

Should City sign Harry Kane?

Yes

No

Standing at 6 ft 2, the 26-year-old not only poses as a danger going forward, but in the air as well – potentially helping to solve City’s debatable lack of presence in that department.

Compared to Aguero, courtesy of WhoScored data, the Englishman has won on average 2.8 aerial duels per game in the Premier League this season – with the City hero amassing a meagre 0.1 in that time.

Taking this into account, as well as Kane’s consistent goalscoring records, it’s safe to say that he could serve as a viable replacement for the 31-year-old – even if we may have to fork out £150 million to acquire his signature over the Galacticos.
